Mission Without Borders
Back in upFront.eZine issue #1,126, I wrote...
"If you would like to donate to an agency that has already been helping people in Ukraine, Moldova, and Romania for decades now (“boots on the ground”), and which upFront.eZine supports annually, then I would like to suggest Mission Without Borders at mwbca.org/ukraine. We did. Donations are used to provide emergency aid and food packages for people in eastern Ukraine. (Tax receipts available for Canadian donors only.)"
Late last week, Mission Without Borders provided this update on their activities in the area:
Inside Ukraine: Our Mission Without Borders team in Ukraine continue to be relatively safe, and are assisting people that are unable to evacuate and remain sheltered in communities that are under constant bombardment.
Outside Ukraine: For those that have left Ukraine, we have teams working hard at the borders of Romania and Moldova. Staff and volunteers are meeting refugees with warm food, drinks, blankets, transportation, and assistance finding a safe place for to stay, either temporarily as they continue on to final destinations elsewhere in Europe, or within the border-towns themselves if they have nowhere else to go.
In partnership with a local church in Palanca, Moldova [near Odessa, Ukraine], MWB staff and volunteers are hosting refugees in a local cultural center. Most fled their homes with only a few things that they could carry. We are giving them a safe place to sleep, proper meals, and clothes and hygiene supplies.
Volunteers providing refreshments, meals, and kindness to the tens of thousands of refugees crossing the border at Palanca, Moldova
