Runs on iOS, Windows Metro, and Web browsers
Intosite is an app that lets Siemens customers place 3D models and other data onto Google Maps. I tested it on an iPad. There is no demo mode, and so Siemens PLM Software provided me with an example login.
After logging in, I was prompted to chose a location, either manually (through the Address option) or automatically through a barcode or GPS. (See figure 1.) The prompt "Set Location" is vague, but it means that I should set the location of the site I want to visit.
The barcode option is useful inside buildings, where the GPS does not operate and where the user might not know the address. Companies would place barcode stickers on a machine or nearby wall, which are scanned by the iPad's camera.

Setting the location
I tapped Address to get a list of preset locations. (See figure 2.)
Figure 2
Choosing a preset address
After I selected an address, an aerial view of the location appears in Google Map. (See figure 3.) The red pushpins correspond to the items on the left. Although Intosite permits walkthroughs of 3D models, this mode was not available in the demo I used.
Figure 3
Listing of nodes at this address
I chose a location from the list on the left... (See figure 4).

Choosing a node to view more data
...and then tapped the node to view the data associated with the item. (See figure 5.)
Figure 5
Viewing data associated with the node
To add items to a node, tap the + button; the following screen appears. (See Figure 6.) I could take a photograph or attach a file, as well as specify a layer to assign. Layers are a way of creating sub-groups of information associated with a node, such as one set of information for machinists and a separate set of data for maintenance.
