Dell this morning announced a new entry-level portable workstation, ie, high-power laptop. The starting price is $1200, but it will not ship until later in the Spring. Not a lot of specs at this point, but it looks like a traditional laptop, and not the ultrabook size.
The M2800 is the cheapest 15" engineering laptop, says Dell, but the starting price can grow with all of the options available, some of which are listed below. It weighs just over 5.5 pounds.
It can be configured with Intel's Core i5 and i7 processors, AMD's FirePro W4170M graphics with 2GB of GDDR5 video memory, up to 16GB of system memory, and up to 1TB disk space, and a 15.6-inch UltraSharp display in HD or FHD (1920 x 1080), external multi-monitor support, and docking port that works with existing Dell docks.
