Bricsys has been hinting at getting back into the architectural design market, and today they released the first beta of the BricsCAD BIM Module. Here's what you need to know about it:
- Addon loads into BricsCAD Pro and Platinum versions only (not Standard version)
- Works with 32-bit BricsCAD v13.2 only (not 64-bit or earlier releases)
- For Windows only (not Linux)
- Will add Bricsys' direct modeling technology to a future release, and links to the Chapoo portal for project management and file translation
Bricsys ceo Eric DeKeyser tells me, "It is a beta version that can be used in day to
day work. We are very ambitious in our plans for the coming years regarding BIM."
(The Bricsys staff has experience with architectural CAD, through the earlier development of TriForma software, subsequently sold to Bentley Systems, and Architecturals software.)
Expect the BIM module to be developed slowly, and not rushed out as today's mobile apps are. Bricsys' thinking is long-term. Their idea is to build an entire CAD ecosystem based on solely the DWG file format: 2D, 3D, MCAD, and BIM.
