Nanosoft of Russia has been quietly developing an AutoCAD work-alike for several years now, improving its abilities with each new release.
It appears the next one is due out next summer, for today they sent out an open beta invitation:
Nanosoft has started a free beta tester program: http://nanocad.com/news/Be-a-nanoCAD-beta-tester

Open / Save
ZWCAD : 116 / 75
NANOCAD : 102 / 112
BRICSCAD : 52 / 80
Here are some timing figures (in seconds) to open a large 103 MB vector DWG in each one of the above CAD software.
Also shown are SaveAs timings which is the time needed to create a new DWG from scratch, forcing the entire drawing database to be rewritten.
