One of the first questions new ASUS Transformer users have is, how much memory can I load into the two memory card slots. (With the keyboard dock attached, these Android tablets have a microSD slot in the tablet, and a full-size SD slot in the keyboard.)
The answer is, um, unlimited. But since the largest capacities these days is 128GB, that's what it'll take, so 256GB total.
There are two catches:
1. Memory cards 64GB or larger must be formatted on a Windows PC using exFAT or NTFS. They cannot be formatted on the tablet, because apparently Google pulled the formatting function from Android 3 (due to Microsoft licensing threats, is my guess).
2. I haven't tried this tip myself, unlike all the other tips I leave on this blog. But because I've read similar answers on multiple Android blogs, I assume it is probably true. I don't want to spend several hundred dollars to find out whether it is true, because I don't need a quarter-terrabyte disk space. The 64GB my TF101 currently has are sufficient.
Bonus Tip: If you use a card reader that is not compatible with the special format of high-capacity SD cards, then you might screw up the card. Low-cost card readers are likely incompatible with SDXC.
