During Dassault Systemes' conference call last week with financial analysts, ceo Bernard Charles said that his company has been keeping Solidworks users up to date:
...we have high level of motivation from the user community. And of course, this is critical because we are preparing the evolution of the generation of Solidworks to continue to unify our 3DEXPERIENCE platform, which was also stated during the announcement.
We explained to our user community that over time, the convergence between Solidworks and the 3DEXPERIENCE [a.k.a. "the V6 architecture"] platform will bring benefits, being able to provide upside with application portfolio.
Later, he added:
...one multi-platform 3DEXPERIENCE platform. This is multi-brand, it enables CATIA, SIMULIA, EXALEAD, NETVIBES, INOVIA, 3DSWYM. But you don’t see the products anymore or the brands. What you see is the full solution to do the job and really addressed the needs.
I question how the user community is of value to Dassault when there is no sign they are being listened to. These guys with Dassault have however mastered the ability to produce CEO and "C"suite speak.
The new ProE as SolidWorks will never go away but they are going to lose their crown with increasing speed as they give up what their traditional customers bought them for. I tend to think that is the plan though and the pure CAD guys will be dumped for some social media CAD mashup.
I know, I know, yes you can have permanent seats, your SW the way you always have had and no one will be forced to the cloud because Bernard, et al, say so.
