Dell is flying the media to San Francisco today for a NDA event tomorrow. I don't know what we'll be seeing tomorrow, and tomorrow I can't tell you what we saw -- because we have to sign a non-disclosure form.
But I can guess...
Dell will show us new workstations based on the new "ivy bridge" CPU/GPU from Intel. The NDA is due Intel making its official announcement on Monday, and wants to give all participating hardware vendors the same marketing advantage.
We might see a new all-in-one workstation to counter HP's Z1, and maybe new models of workstation-class laptops for which Dell is famous. We might see Windows-based tablets to counter the Android onslaught.
nVidia is also there, and so maybe they will announce graphics boards designed for CAD use, based on their new Kepler GPUs.
The trip is eerily similar to last month's. I'm taking the same Air Canada flights up and down, I am being chauffeured from and to SFO airport in the same looking black town cars, I am staying in the same Hyatt Regency hotel, and the event takes place in the same building across the street, Autodesk's office on the second floor on One Market Street. Only the PR firm is different <g>.
With nVidia producing its barn-burning 5-core CPU/GPUs for Android devices, and Autodesk doing software for this market-dominating mobile OS, maybe we'll even see a new Android tablet!
One thing for sure: we will hear nothing about Apple or iOS. While Autodesk has some fingers in that pie, Dell sure doesn't, and I figure nVidia is plenty ticked off at Apple switching its GPU supplier away from nVidia to AMD/ATI.
You mean the battery draining 5 core CPU/GPU for Android devices?

Has that been your experience with the units you own?

It has not been my experience, because in their current state, I won't buy them.
However, I work with several coworkers that have Droid tablets. They all say they like them, but they just wish the battery would last longer.
On paper it would appear that the 5 core CPU/GPU would beat the iPad 3. I'm not so sure it would prove out that way on a benchmark though.
