For many years, Autodesk was the largest CAD software company in the world, as measured by gross annual revenues. But something happened last fiscal year, and Dassault was able to pull ahead, just beating out the former #1.
Now, it is a bit tricky measuring Dassault, because they report their revenues in Euros, and then have to translate them ito US$ -- and that exchange varies by the minute. The number listed below is provided by Dassaul themselves.
The Top 4 CAD vendors are as follows:
1. Dassault Systemes $2.36 billion
2. Autodesk: $2.22 billion
3. Siemens PLM Software: $?.?? billion
4. Parametric Technologies: $1.3 billion
It is assumed that Siemens PLM is #3, but no one knows for sure, because they do not make public their financial results. The last time they reported was in 2007 when they were still known as UGS, and revenues were $1.2 billion. The guess is that Siemens is somewhere between $1.5 and 2.0 billion in revenues.
Hi Ralph,
Our estimate for Siemens PLM Software in 2011 will keep them at a solid number two for PLM vendors, since the numbers you quote above are for all revenue, not just CAD.

Where is Bentley in these rankings? I know they're privately owned, but there must be an indication somewhere.
(And a 'top four' is odd. Aren't these things usually the Top Five?)

Bentley Systems is around $500 million, smaller than ANSYS at $701.1 million.

Lists can be Top 3, or Top 10, or Top 100. I listed the four CAD vendors that are in the Billion Dollar Club.
