Concerning the attempted registration by Autodesk of the "DWG" file name extension, the United States Patent and Trademark Office this morning announced:
A final Office action refusing registration has been sent(issued) because the applicant [Autodesk, Inc.] neither satisfied nor overcame all requirements and/or refusals previously raised.

I wonder how much this fruitless legal action cost ADSK shareholders?
DWG remains synonomous with Autodesk. They may not 'own' DWG but is linked to Autodesk as 'hoover' is linked to vacuum.

DWG certainly is linked to Autodesk like 'Kleenex' to tissue, but Autodesk's aim was to prevent anyone else from using DWG without permission. The USPTO decided it was a file extension, not a name, and so could not be registered.
