{Pausing Boycott}
I've been boycotting news about Alibre ever since their current ceo wrote me a particularly nasty letter by email. (Following that particular fiasco, the company got itself an external pr firm.)
...and...
I have been wondering how Moment of Inspiration would ever make a breakthrough in mindshare. Mike Gibson is a brilliant programmer, who is also known for his original work on Rhino, but like me likes to run a one-man company.
...so...
According to a mailing that landed in my Eudora In box this afternoon, MoI has found a home.
Announcing the addition of Moment of Inspiration to the Alibre product line. We are happy to announce that Moment of Inspiration (MoI) will be included in future purchases of Alibre Design Expert.
For Alibre, this means they can now offer customers surfacing and rapid conceptual designing, along with im/export of Step, Obj, and SKP (Sketchup) files. Data xfer with Alibre is through Step, while Obj lets Alibre exchange drawings with rendering, animation, and game-programming software.
...finally...
I think this is a great move for both parties.
Note that MoI was designed to work with touch screens.
You can read my 2006 interview with Mr Gibson here.

I like these new products names, MoI... Charming, what about MLoR (Momentary Lapse of Reason)?

I'd say it's a good for Alibre customers (Alibre desperately needs surfacing) and MoI (he gets money and customers).
I'll also add that Alibre has been fair to existing AD Standard customers after Standard was replaced by Personal Edition.
