I like browsing at the local Wal-mart every few months, since they carry some unique electronics, and sometimes at greatly slashed prices. Last week I came across an iTouch/iPhone recharger, about the size of a box of matches, made by Griffen. It was reduced to $20 -- from about $78.
The recharger is just a battery with an iPhone connector. It attaches to its own charger with a magnet. (The charger has a bonus: a USB power outlet.) The unit has 5 LEDs to indicate the level of charge. Unfortunately, the recharger's capacity of 1000mAh is insufficient to fully recharge a nearly dead iTouch, but that's a trade-off for its small size.
Sometimes I forget to plug in the iTouch in the morning, and then when I have to suddenly leave for somewhere, the iTouch is on a half-full battery. Now I grab the recharger, and get it to recharge the iTouch as I drive to my destination.
