When we at PTC say "PLM", we are not including CAD in the definition but focusing instead on information management and business process automation and improvement solutions.
And he defines who isn't into PLM:
...CIMdata refers to companies like Autodesk, Cadence, and Synopsis as "PLM vendors", whereas I think they are not even in the PLM business.
Source.
PTC's desire to dominate the PLM space is a good one. As it stands today, none of the CAD players outside of PTC have been interested in managing data outside of the engineering and manufacturing teams. I think we will see PTC make strong strides in building their value as a strong and viable PLM offering.
