Alain Coulombe, ceo of 3DSemantix, had told me that they are launching 3DPartFinder geometry-based search engine for SolidWorks here at SWWX (booth 135). It finds similar and duplicate parts.
Searching for similar parts in a database and using alphanumeric-based search systems is so unproductive that designers prefer to create new parts instead of using ones already in inventory -- for lack of being able to find them easily.
This new software for SolidWorks finds parts similar to the initial inquiry in two ways:
- Load an existing file that represents the target part, and then launch 3DPartFinder.
- Sketch the 3D shape in SolidWorks, and then have 3DPartFinder find similar parts.
