One problem faced by CAD vendors who are locked to the Microsoftian API/OS combo is that they get dragged along by whatever Microsoft considers necessary to further lock in users.
Take the ribbon... pu-lease!
My daughter needed a copy of Word in order to be file-compatible with her profs. (She runs OpenOffice, but sometimes it screws up formatting of imported DOCX files.) Just in time, I learned of the free Office 2010 beta, and installed it for her last night. (No sense giving a company with $34 billion in the bank a fistful more dollars.)
I was bemused to see that that jumbled ribbon interface has changed again. What this means is that you can expect the ribbon UI of your most important (or "relatively unimportant," as Steve Wolfe likes to call some) CAD programs to change once again -- sigh.
