I don't care about cells phones -- I just want them to make and take phone calls. But I am fascinated by Western society's fascination with the device, both from bloggers and the young community around my children (aged 19-23) and their friendship circles.
And it appears that the Blackberry is the new iPhone. They see the iPhone for people who need to show off. They like the Blackberry for its instant-access keypad (no flipping, no sliding, no vague screen touching) and its larger-than-normal screen.
Yesterday one daughter needed to replace the 7-year-old flip phone she'd been using. She picked a Blackberry look-alike from Samsung. My son's girlfriend wants a Blackberry. Other daughter's friend: Blackberry.
