I've been saying on this blog that Windows 7RC takes "three minutes" to boot, while Linux Mint takes "a minute." I figure I should benchmark the two.
The Ready-to-Work Benchmark
I chose to time the following set of activities:
- Start up operating system.
- Connect wirelessly to the Internet.
- Launch FireFox v3.5
- Connect to My Yahoo.
I did a second timing as well: how long it took for each OS to shut down. Both OSs are running on my LG netbook.
Results
- Mint Linux took 2:04 (min:sec) to complete the startup task; 0:19 to shut down.
- Windows 7RC took 4:38 to complete the startup task; 0:36 to shut down.
Other distribtuions of Linux are even faster.
