Autodesk halts sales of FM Desktop for facilities management, and will stop supporting through subs at the end of its next fiscal year end, Jan 31, 2010.
As alternatives, Autodesk suggests:
- AutoCAD (!)
- AutoCAD LT (huh?)
- Revit Architecture and MapGuide -- when adapted to FM by Autodesk Consulting.
The obit Web page makes no mention of ADN partners that might be capable of filling the newly-created gap.
Hmm, LT probably only makes it on there because a lot of FM users have it already. Our smaller hospitals use it (part time users), and we have two seats at my facility as well (although I have a full version, ACA but transitioning to the MEP series as corporate 'embraces' BIM).
There are a lot of upset FMD users on the discussion groups right now. I'm not exactly thrilled myself (although I only used it for two years and had to wait for additional staff to be approved to complete the rollout).
Personally, we're back looking at Archibus again.
