Autodesk invited 14 members of the CAD media to its new offices outside Portland OR. I drove down, since it takes 5 hours to drive or 5 hours to fly -- and this way I could bring along my wife at no extra cost.
(It took writer Bill Fane 6.5 hours to fly the same distance, because Alaska Airlines canceled his flight. He eventually arrived on Air Canada.)
We are here to get 50-minute demos and Q&As on a variety of 2010 software from the mfg'ing division. So far Randall Newton and I have been given the lowdown on:
- Data Management -- two new levels of Vault; as well, Product Stream has been renamed Vault Manufacturing.
- Industrial Design -- we are being shown importing blocks from AutoCAD, converting them to Inventor blocks, adding weldments, and then adding it to an existing assembly. I was momentarily confused, but then Simon Bosley explained Autodesk has expanded the capabilities of Sketch mode.
