nVidia is delaying its so-far once-only annual love-in, nVision, according to Jon Stokes of ARS Technica. It'll be later and smaller.
The reason is the same as the one Bentley gave for switching its annual BE user conference to stay-at-home Webcasts -- potential attendees can't afford the travel costs.
I wonder if theses events are being canceled for other reasons. Even though users pay $500-$1500 in fees to attend these sorts of events (plus another $500 - $1500 in travel and hotel costs), it doesn't cover the entire event's expenses.
The nVidias and Bentelys of the world typically subsidize costs directly, and indirectly through sponsorships. It would not surprise me if sponsors have become reluctant to spend funds on this type of marketing in exotic locales when back home they are laying off 10% of their work forces.
