I have railed against nVidia and their decision to remove several resolution settings from their drivers for HP notebook computers, which rendered my external 1440x900 monitor unusable.
Today, the railing stops.
One of the files in today's Vista update was a new nVidia driver. I decided to download it, since I had nothing to lose. After a few moments the screen collapsed to about a line a dozen pixels long. Oh, oh. Then it bounced back to 640x480 resolution. I knew that meant the driver was being installed. After a few moments, the notebook computer's screen was back to normal.
I reattached the external monitor, and then checked the resolution options. 1440x900 is back! I feel the relief that one feels after one stops pounding one's head against the wall.
