This fall I am back to teaching CAD at a not-quite-local technical college. The class involves 60 first-year students learning to become surveyors. I've been ask to introduce to them AutoCAD. There's a once-a-week lecture for the entire class, followed later in the week by a lab for groups of 20 students each.
The range of abilities is remarkable. A half-hour after encountering AutoCAD for the first time, a female student asked where she could modify command aliases. At the discouraging end of the scale, a male student just couldn't get dragging to work -- as in, dragging entities from one part of the screen to another.
I am impressed at their seriousness. They want to learn.
(This entry counts as a Travelogue because of the 2-3-hour commute between my home and the school.)
