Designing the Olympics with IntelliCAD
4M is the Greek distributor of IntelliCAD, and their staff are now up front showing some of the buildings they designed for the 2004 olympics in Athens.
The buildings included:
- International Broadcasting Center
- Olympic Training Facilities
- Stadium
- Media Village
- Central Warehouse
They customized IntelliCAD with the FINE line of add-ons: HVAC, elevators, electrical, and plumbing. It was pretty impressive to see IntelliCAD handling these complex drawings.

Traveling around Athens grew nuts on Thursday as the Metro (subway) went on strike in sympathy with striking Olympia Airlines employees -- who are upset that the government wants to privatize the airline. Get used to the real world, guys. Fortunately, our flight out of Greece tomorrow is with Aegean Airlines, which was formed by entrepreneurs annoyed with Olympia's poor level of service.
Ya, so anyhow, the Metro is on strike, so the buses were packed and the roads jammed. My wife had figured out the bus route, and 80 cents is much more palatable than the $30 taxi fares -- even if it takes twice as long.
As we waited for the A2 bus to start its trip from the nearby bus loop, the driver smoked his cigarette inside. He stubbed out his cigarette, gunned his bus, and headed off on his route -- leaving us behind. Maybe he was annoyed he had to work, instead of enjoying a day off, "striking." Fortunately, this express route has another bus every ten minutes.
