ViewCube Research

ViewCube: a 3D orientation indicator and controller is the name of paper that Autodesk researchers submitted to the Symposium on Interactive 3D Graphics. Azam Khan, Igor Mordatch, George Fitzmaurice, Justin Matejka, and Gordon Kurtenbach are with Autodesk Research in Toronto Canada.

Their research showed that users preferred clicking the corners and faces of the cube, over other interfaces, such as the 3dOrbit command's arc ball and a toolbar-style row of buttons.
