FutureShop this week has a sale on all notebook computers, includng $300 off the HP tx1220 convertable notebook computer that I had been eyeing for the last few months. Last night, over dinner, we agreed that my youngest daughter pays me for my two-year-old notebook, and I get the tx1220.
"Convertable" notebook means it operates as a notebook computer, but also as a TabletPC. The lid with the LCD has a rotateable hinge; when twisted about and closed, the LCD display's orientation automatically switches to portrait. A stylus is included, and slides into a round slot on the side.
The essential specs:
* 2.2GHz dual-core 64-bit AMD CPU
* 200GB hard drive
* 2GB RAM
* 8x Lightscribe Dual-layer DVD burner
* 1280x960 resolution wide screen
* Around 512MB RAM for the nVidia graphics board
* Remote control
* Price: CDN$1399 (about $1299 US).
The great thing is its's 12-inch screen makes this light and small for travel (just 5 pounds). The scarey thing is that it runs Vista and has a demo of Norton installed. The first piece of paper warns it'll take about 25 minutes to start up the first time, doing all kinds of checking and installing of software. You'd think that a notebook computer matched to an operating system would have all that pre-set. Disk mirroring anyone?
