The educational book publisher Thomson Learning was recently sold to a private equity firm. Apax Partners renamed their new acquisition "Cengage Learning." It's a synthetic name derived from "center of engagement".
You might know Thomson better from its imprints (house brands): Heinle, Gale, Wadsworth, Course Technology, Delmar Learning, Brooks/Cole, South-Western, and Autodesk Press.
Two of my books are published by Cengage: Using AutoCAD and The Illustrated AutoCAD Quick Reference.
Why not just call it APAX Learning? Sounds better.
