In its fifth launching (or maybe the sixth, I've lost track), Dassault took the time to further confuse the market by renaming "3DLive" as "3D Via."
Or maybe not. It's all so confusing.
The FAQ at 3D Via explains, "3DVIA is the newest of the 6 Dassault Systèmes brands. Its mission is democratizing the usage of 3D so that everybody can use it in its everyday life, either at work or at home, through the web."
[The six Dassault brands are CATIA, DELMIA, ENOVIA, SIMULIA, SolidWorks and 3D VIA -- so 3D Live is not one of them.]
The FAQ at 3D Live explains, "3DLive delivers a breakthrough lightweight 3D paradigm for on-line collaborative intelligence, leveraging enterprise 3D and PLM information. It provides a single immersive user interface where everyone across your enterprise can search, navigate, work and collaborate on any aspect of your PLM intellectual property..."
Dassault's press release issued today on 3D Via is similarly confusing:
* "3DVIA services will be accessible at 3dvia.com." No, it is already accessible now.
* "The first services that will be made available later this year..." -- no, really, it's already up and running today.
* "... will empower passionate 3DVIA communities with services to invent and create objects in 3D, upload, share, and tag 3D, and enjoy interactive experiences in 3D." -- stop using the future tense! The uploading, sharing, tagging, enjoying of interactive experiences is occurring NOW.
Perhaps the future tense is linked to the "beta" label attached to 3dvia.com ...
Anyway. 3DVIA Printscreen (http://www.3dvia.com/shapeit/3D_PrintScreen/ ) is an awesome tool ! Did you ever see something like this before ?
