SolidWorks has been working with the Rwandan government on software, but they're not the only ones. Google reports that Rwanda's educational institutions and government ministries are starting to use Google Apps -- email, PC-to-PC phone calls, instant messaging, word processing, etc.
These apps are free anyhow, so the kicker here are that these online apps will run over the institutions' domain names. Plus Google gets some nice PR.
Question I put to Google press contact Emmanuel Evita is this: In countries where a constant electrical supply is problematic, how well would Web-based apps run?
Baby steps.
Black outs are nothing new to Africans. We still get round them and get work done.
Not the most optimal situation but it's much better than nothing.
Kudoz google.
