UGS is pleased to announce that it was awarded a large number of patents last year:
· USPN 7,146,594 -- System, Method and Computer Program Product for Schematic Generation.
· USPN 7,106,331 -- Bi-Directional Propagation in a Curve Network.
· USPN 7,098,918 -- System and Method for Shape Preservation of Curves in an Editing Process.
· USPN 7,065,478 -- Computer-Aided Progressive Die Design System and Method.
· USPN 7,028,051 -- Method of Real-Time Business Collaboration.
· USPN 7,027,048 -- Computerized Deformation Analyzer.
I once asked the ceo of a CAD company why he patents his company's technologies. His response: in case a competitor thinks of suing him over technology, he can pull out his patents and offer to dicker.
Patents are war chests.
7,027,048 -- Computerized Deformation Analyzer???!! It seems like there might be a little bit of prior art to this one. How is this patentable? Is there anything in this patent (forgive me, the language in the patent is hard to understand) that is not in general FEA codes that have been around for decades?
