Just after posting the item on PTC making up with RAND ("We promise to stop hitting you."), the RSS Newsfeed toaster on my Opera Web browser alerted me to PTC agreeing with Autodesk on direct translation of file formats. Darn you, Randall. A PTC insider had alerted me earlier today that an Autodesk-PTC news item would be released tomorrow, but AECnews.com has it today.
At one time the meanest kid on the block, PTC is now making nice. PTC lets Autodesk use Granite (PTC's way of letting outsiders access data from thought-to-be-encrypted PRO/E drawings) in exchange for Autodesk allowing PTC access to RealDWG (its equivalent for accessing data locked in proprietary DWG files).
Was PTC on the blacklist of five CAD vendors to whom Autodesk would not license RealDWG?
It matters no longer, because the sweet strains of "I love you; you love me..." are wafting between MA and CA.
