Update on ProView Tech Support
It's now been more than a week, and still no response from ProView's tech support. I suppose I am not surprised, because when I visited their Web site, it didn't list the model I purchased. How high-tech is that?
(As well, the driver CD didn't have a driver specific to this PL2225AFW model; I used an equivalent driver meant for their 19" widescreen monitor. As long as the resolution and aspect ratio are the same, the screen size does not matter.)
Update on the Too-short VGA Cable
I solved the problem of the too-short VGA cable in a clumsy manner. In storage, I have a "KVM" switch, which allows two computers to share one Keyboard, Video screen, and Mouse. It comes with spare cables, so I ran the too-short VGA cable to the KVM switch, and the second to my underdesk computer. It's clumsy, because the KVM switch needs its own power supply, so now there's three cables where there used to be one. Sigh.
I figured out why the VGA cable was too short. It's not ProView's fault. The cable's not too short; the monitor is too thin! My old ViewSonic CRT monitor is over 18" deep; the new LCD is less than 3" thin. Consequently, there's 15" more distance for the cable to travel.
Udpate on the Monitor Stand
As for the wooden box from IKEA upon which I stand the monitor (so it reaches my eye height), I've thought of cutting out the front to make room for my external DVD burner and external hard drive. Add a couple of holes in the back for the cables to snake out.
One day, when I am in sufficient need of a challenge, I will swap in a graphics board capable of handling two monitors (I have an older Matrox board in storage), and work with monitors.
