Several outlets write about the role of analysts in technology stories:
* Information Week: Ban The Analysts! Or Not? By Patricia Keefe
* The Register: NY Times bans Microsoft analysts from Microsoft stories by Ashlee Vance
Rob Enderle [sole proprietor of Enderle Group, who is paid by Microsoft] this week made it into 51 stories - and counting - about Microsoft. ComputerWorld, InformationWeek, PC World, MarketWatch and InternetNews.com all quoted the analyst without ever touching on his relationship with Microsoft.
I don't see the point to quoting analysts. upFront.eZine doesn't use them, because (1) analysts are "courted" by software firms (I'll leave the definition of "courted" deliberately vague); and (2) they don't add any information useful for our readers.
