Jeanne Sahadi of CNN Money covers a report by The Corporate Library, which took the time to analyze the compensation of 1,400 CEOs in 2005. Compensation includes salary, bonus, perks, exercised stock options and other long-term incentive pay. The top 3 were:
1. Barry Diller - IAC/InterActive - US$295 million
2. Richard D. Fairbank - Capital One Financial - $249 million
3. Eugene M. Isenberg - Nabors Industries - $203 million
CNN Money's list covered the top 12:
12. Carol A. Bartz - Autodesk - $83 million.
Of the top 12, the article notes, "only four companies -- Autodesk, Yahoo, Valero Energy, and Countrywide -- outperformed their peers in the past five years." Between 2004 and 2005, the average pay increased by 16%. Did your pay increase by 16% last year?
Carol's income in this period is probably dominated by these transactions. 50K options/wk for a long, long time makes for a fat bank account.
