Shlomi Cohen of SeekingAlpha reports [yahoo.com] that Dassault Systemes will join IBM, Research In Motion, and Radvision in a press conference today. IBM is launching a "real time interpersonal communications software program called Same Time 7.5, based on Lotus Notes software, with Radvision providing the video communications component."
Cohen does not explain the role of Research In Motion and Dassault. I suppose the press event will show the software running on on a Blackberry device. As for Dassault's role, I am guessing that they are there to display their 3D-everywhere graphics in Same Time on the Blackberry.
Or maybe not. IBM has this to say:
Business Partner Panel Discussion -- RIM, Dassault, Cisco, Radvision
Thought leaders discussing the industry forces causing them to make investments in the real-time collaboration space and why they are choosing to innovate with IBM
Update
I was correct [channelweb.net]:
Dassault Systemes has a plug-in [for IBM Lotus Sametime 7.5] that enables businesses to share, inspect and sync up 3-D images over Sametime.
And from InfoWorld:
Dassault, a French company that provides project-management software, is using its 3D modeling technology in conjunction with Sametime to let Sametime users view models of products -- for example, an airplane -- and connect via instant messaging or voice with the designers of different parts of the product, Bisconti said. Pricing for Sametime 7.5 is $55 per user. The product began shipping in mid-August.
Dassault Systemes has made 3DXML format available in IBM Lotus Notes Application. See details here:
http://www.3ds.com/news-events/press-room/release/968/1/
It is very important that user can browse product structure and filter out visualisation of selected components.
To make this tool fully usable DS should add object properties control and make 3DXML available for graphical representation in CATIA Product.
Automatic 3DXML re-generation upon Product update would be desired as well.
