VRML was a Big Deal in the mid-1990s, seen as a way to possibly move CAD to the Internet. (VRML is short for "virtual reality markup language" and is a simple method of displaying 3D objects in a CAD-like fashion. Some CAD packages output their drawings in VRML.)
I came across an intriguing quotation in Niall Kennedy's highly-publicized exit from Micro-"heavy change, reorganization, pullback, and general paralysis"-soft. In an interview with ValleyWag, he says:
Although VRML in Ajax does look tempting, I'll be doing something new.
VRML (3D models) + AJAX (interactive Web pages). Intriquing.
mid-1900s
Cad has been around that long. Probably a typo?

I've corrected "1900" to read 1990. Thx for finding what the spell checker cannot.
