Yesterday I described how AutoCAD 2007 crashed any time I selected a 3D template file, such as acad3d.dwt. I got to thinking: how come AutoCAD only crashes when a 3D template is opened -- and always with a 3D template file?
Maybe (a notion passed through me) it was the graphics board. I re-started the software with a 2D template (acad.dwt), and then ran the 3dConfig command. Hardware acceleration was turned on, so I turned it off.
AutoCAD no longer crashes. Here is the difficulty: my computer has one of the graphics boards approved for use with AutoCAD 2007. Not so good.
