As much as I support non-Microsoft software, I've reverted on Opera 9. It's just too buggy. And bugs in v8.x haven't been fixed. And I'm not using any of the new features (yet). This morning I reverted to Opera v8.54.
The Web browser is one of my three most-used tools -- besides email and word processing. So it has to work well. Opera 9 adds too many annoyances that I can't use it. Here are some of the problems:
* The blank menu bug (noted earlier).
* The strange spacing of words on buttons, droplists, and input fields -- makes it hard to edit text when I can't tell where spaces are and aren't.
* The double Quick Find item in Panels is not fixed.
* The Cheshire Cat effect for the Close-Minimize-Maximize buttons continues to dog Opera.
The final straw, for me, came when Opera 9 crashed upon printing a Web page.
I should hasten to add that a buggy Opera is still better than Internet Explorer. IE's latest bug is that it crashes whenever it is closed -- including when a popup IE window is closed. The humerous part is that an error detection dialog box appears, offering to restart IE. Well, no, I just closed it. That's what you get when the smartest people in the world write software.
