I no sooner lament the overuse of whitepapers than I talk about two.
Well, there's our own upFront.reSearch and its latest research paper. Alexander A. Yampolsky of Russia recommends a hierarchical structure for defining objects that make up building designs. You can download Operating System for Structural Design (PDF format) free fromupfrontezine.com/research.
And then there's a whitepaper (written in-house) by CoCreate on how its MCAD system differs from the big boys: Dynamic Modeling is what Todd Black and Ian Dabney call it. "Design features are independent of each other and history-free."
The phrase "big boys" leads to an interesting thought. The big-selling MCAD systems use history-based models. The small-selling ones don't. Mr Black is hoping to change that, because working with a history tree (while intuitive) restricts your ability to edit the model. "OneSpace 3G PLM: Achieving lean product development" is going to be available from the CoCreate Web site today.
