The Associated Press reveals that Europe suffers from a digital divide [gasp!].
The EU's statistics agency found the divide between young and those over 50 years old -- "many of whom have never or hardly use computers or use them to go online."
So why is this a problem? Or, in other words, why did taxpayer money have to be spent on the study? Apparently, forcing the 50+ population onto computers will help Europe in it's war of superiority against the USA:
"European governments have been trying to increase digital education and training as part of efforts to boost the EU's sluggish economic growth prospects and increase the bloc's competitive edge against the United States and new economic powers from Asia," writes the unnamed reporter for AP.
Uh huh. Having just returned from Europe where I stayed with both young and old relatives, there is a simple reason why the 50+ gang isn't digital: they have no interest. They remain comfortable with daily newspapers, telephone and tv, high-frequency transit, and close proximities.
