If the largest CAD company (Autodesk) won't play nice, then Adobe has others to turn to. UGS and Adobe are working to let Acrobat PDF files display 3D JT Open files. (More accurately, JT files will be exported to U3D format, which can then be displayed by PDF.
Similarly, UGS software products will be able to export their drawings in PDF format. (The more recent updates of MicroStation from Bentley Systems also do both.) These exports won't be available, however, until early next year. In the meantime, UGS software can output PDF using printer drivers.
UGS is claiming that "JT is the PLM industry's most widely adopted open 3D data format for enabling product visualization, data sharing and collaboration." Notice the bent toward PLM instead of CAD.
Also from UGS: 'Virtually all major computer-aided design (CAD) applications used by manufacturers throughout the world can export JT files." Emphasis on virtually.
