Graphisoft is buying and selling. (Thanks to AECnews.com for the heads-up.)
The Hungarian CAD software company is acquiring DSS of Finland. DSS produces software for the construction industry: schedule planning and project control.
But Graphisoft is also un-acquiring their facilities management software, admiting they were unable to run that part of their business profitably. ArchiFM will be sold to European distributors and Drawbase FM to an old/new firm, Drawbase Software. I wonder if some of the former DrawBase personnel (now with Graphisoft USA) are buying back their baby?
And in other news: the company is thinking of off spinning its real estate development business (Graphisoft Park) as an independent entity. (I've been to the business park, and it is quite beautiful, architecturally, and physically, located on the Danube River.)
The news was not announced in a press release, but in a note to investors back in mid-June.
Update
Michael Dakan of Cadalyst's 'AEC Tech News' has more details on the spin-offs:
"Drawbase Software is based in Randolph, New Jersey, and comprises the former management and employees of Graphisoft's FM division. Evan Kontos, a DRAWBASE reseller for 17 years, is president of the new company. Graphisoft acquired the original Drawbase Software in April 2000 for close to $2 million."
