Apple's new Mighty Mouse provides four touch-sensitive areas that act as buttons, plus a pimple-size rollerball for panning and scanning.
Over at ars technica Jacqui Cheng and Clint Ecker illustrate their taking apart of the new mouse. Reminds me as a boy taking apart watches, though I never got them together again.
The article shows how squeezing the mouse sides executes buttons, and that sensors along the top of the mouse sense finger pressure.
Afterwards, they called the nearest Apple Store to get another mouse. "When told that they had a floor model that we could come in and test if we liked, the employee on the phone was informed that we used to have one, but took it apart already and needed another. It's amazing how well telephone silence can convey astonishment."
