In an interview with WorldCAD Access, Autodesk's Carl Bass and Buzz Kross explained that they've been working with UGS for months on the JT/DWF cross-pollination.
The effort will encompass JT and DWF into each other, as well as software from the two vendors being updated to handle each other's "open" formats. In addition, it's a way for Autodesk customers to access PLM softare from UGS.
Why did Autodesk not approach Dassault Systemes? Because they're not open to openess. Even 3DXML has been published yet.
