In an earlier post, I described a digital camera from Sony that tries to also be a movie camera -- I rated it a "first effort, let's wait for version 2."
Now JVC is approaching the problem from the other end: a movie camera that doubles as a digital camera. The Everio records 60 minutes of MPEG2 video to its 4GB CompactFlash micro-drive. In addition, it takes 1.9megapixel (1600x1200) photographs.
Other features:
* 10x optical zoom and 200x digital zoom
* Two body designs: one like a camcorder, the other like a digital camera
* Microdrive is removable, so you can insert additional CompactFlash Type I and II memory cards.
* USB v2 interface to computer
* Available in October for $1,200 - $1300.
Talking about amazing cameras: Nikon's new D2X digital SLR has:
* 12.4 megapixel
* Captures 8u frames per second at 6.8 megapixels.
* Wireless transmitter supports 802.11b/g
* Connect to a GPS via a cable to records latitude, longitude and altitude.
* 2.5" LCD screen
* Takes 2000 photos on one battery.
* History menu keeps track of the most-recently-used menu settings.
* Photos can be encrypted, so that only that particular D2X camera can access them.
* USB 2
Update
Nikon announced the price as US$5,000, and that the DX2 will ship 25 Feb.
