UWB is "ultra wide band" and it transmits data at 110mbit/sec -- twice as fast as today's g-type wireless networks, and fast enough to allow wireless monitors and other video transmissions through thin air. (Hey, don't we have that already? I think it's called "television.") Fast enough to transmit a CD in 47 seconds.
Anyhow, the hope is that the first UWB devices will appear "around Christmas." You can read more about this technology at internetnews.com.
