This is the time of year when camera manufacturers release their new models. Some of the features on Sony's new US$700 DSC-V3 caught my eye:
* LCD screen increased from 1.5" to 2.5".
* Dual memory slots: CompactFlash Type I and Sony's own MemoryStick. I dunno if you can use both for doubled memory capacity.
* Optical zoom stays at 4x (digital zoom = 2x), but the megapixel count increases to 7.2.
* USB v2.0
Some limitations:
* Filter size is a rather large 58mm (requires optional adapter).
* 640x480 fine-mode movies can only be recorded on MemoryStick Pro cards.
* Proprietary battery.
* Total zoom limited to 8x.
Ovreall, I'd say the Canon S1iS is the better buy. More details at Imaging Resource.
