The 3D plotters of today put down layer upon thin layer of plastic to create 3D models. The models are limited to a size that fits inside the 3D plotter, typically a cubic foot.
At the University of Southern California’s Rapid Prototyping Laboratory, B. Khoshnevis is working on a house-size 3D plotter, called "contour crafting" and "selective inhibition of sinterin."
