One of the oldest remaining CAD vendors, Intergraph had in recent years turned into a lawsuit powerhouse, taking on the largest hardware companies -- Intel, HP, Dell, Fujitsu, and others -- as our coverage in upFront.eZine has been reporting.
Today, a surprise in the multi-year case: Intel throws in the towel, and will pay Intergraph US$125 million right now, and a further $25 million a quarter for the next year. It's party time in Huntsville!
We are surprised that Intel gave up defending itself against the CPU-related patent infringement claims, after it won a small victory in the courts last month. But perhaps the might Intel became weary of the tenacious Integraph, whose battles stretch back to 1997.
Intergraph says it also settled with Dell. Litigation against HP is presumably on-going.
