Autodesk touches a lot of lives, and many companies, often with complex histories. Punch Software is one -- and one that I had never heard of before. (No relation to Punch Web Groups.)
The very first CAD package for Windows was Drafix, from Foresight Resources, located in Kansas City MO. The company was bought by SoftDesk, which in turn was bought by Autodesk. Some of the Foresight people left Autodesk, forming drafix.com. Also out of that group was formed Punch Software, which sells low-cost home design and landscaping CAD software into retail markets.
Their software lineup ranges from Home Complete at US$19, through to Architectural Series 3000 ($199) for commerical users.
Stuart Cohen was with some of that history; he's now director of partner programs, and he came by yesterday to show-off that their $200 CAD program is extensible through third-party developers. Correct me if I'm wrong, but could this is the cheapest CAD platform on the market?
I'll have more details of Mr Cohen's visit in upFront.eZine #372.
