In speaking with a senior vp of one of PTC's primary competitors, he tells me his company would prefer Oracle buying PTC. Reason? Oracle probably wouldn't know what to do with the acquired technology, and make PTC less of a competitor.
An industry analyst tells me, however, that Oracle has already rejected the purchase offer.
SAP, on the other, has already been moving towards the CAD world for several years now. They already have a "mySAP PLM CAD Integration" concept. There is PTC's CoCreate Integration for SAP ERP that manages product data between CoCreate Modeling, CoCreate Model Manager, and SAP ERP. This fall, SAP is integrating Right Hemisphere's Deep View (CAD viewer) into SAP V7. And SAP owns part of Right Hemisphere.
While Oracle is strong in GIS, SAP may become stronger in CAD.
